Phenylpiracetam is a very strong nootropic from the racetam family. It is well-known for its cognition boosting properties, which also acts as a stimulant. Structurally it differs from the originally developed racetam by having the added Phenyl atom group. As a result, Phenylpiracetam is a nootropic that is 20-60 times more potent than its precursor. This means that smaller doses of Phenylpiracetam are required (see below). Phenylpiracetam also starts working in the body much quicker and remains in the system for longer.
Phenylpiracetam is both, a nootropic for your mind, as well as a performance booster for your body due to its stimulatory effect on the central nervous system (CNS). It helps students to go through all-nighters, while productivity driven people use it to achieve their own goals. Phenylpiracetam works for hours making the user concentrate on the task at hand.
Phenylpiracetam was first developed in Russia in the early 1990s. Although, there are scientific journal articles from the Soviet Union that contain information about this substance dating back as far as 1983, it was not popularised in the Western world until recently.
The recommended daily dosage is between 200 and 600 mg. Therefore, acute dose of 100-200 mg taken 2-3 times per day is advisable. Phenylpiracetam is so effective, that some users find 100 mg enough for a day. Breaking the total daily dosage into two, morning and afternoon, ingestions is a good way to begin experiencing and getting used to the effects of Phenylpiracetam. The recommended dosage should not be exceeded. The half-life of Phenylpiracetam is around 2.5-3 hours.
There is evidence to suggest that users may develop tolerance for Phenylpiracetam. Thus, it should not be taken every day. In addition, prolonged use may diminish its effects thereby preventing the optimal experience. Therefore, Phenylpiracetam should only be used on days when its effects are needed the most. For example, if you need to work throughout a day whilst revising for an exam and prepare for a test.
As aforementioned, Phenylpiracetam is known to increase the acetylcholine activity levels in the hippocampus area of the brain. One of the consequences of this process (as observed in other racetams), is reduced levels of choline. Choline is a precursor to acetylcholine and is essential to a healthy function of the brain. Headaches following racetams use are often attributed to increased demands of acetylcholine. Therefore, in order to prevent them it is recommended to stack Phenylpiracetam with choline containing compound (e.g. Alpha GPC, DMAE or Choline Bitartrate).
Phenylpiracetam has a substantially higher concentration and bioavailability than the original racetam. As soon as Phenylpiracetam is in the blood, it is going straight to the central nervous system (CNS). This nootropic has no problems crossing the blood-brain barrier. It becomes active within 1 hour after ingestion. The half-life of Phenylpiracetam is around 2.5-3 hours.
In the brain Phenylpiracetam attaches itself to acetylcholine and glutamate receptors and effectively increases the levels of these two neurotransmitters. This results in a number of cognitive improvements. GABA is another neurotransmitter that is increased following Phenylpiracetam ingestion. GABA is responsible for a calm state of mind, providing the relaxing, anti-anxiety effect. Dopamine levels rise as well, dramatically improving the user’s mood.
Reported side effects are very similar to other nootropics in the racetam group. These include headache, irritability, nausea and sleeplessness. It is simple to prevent these unwanted feelings by following the recommended dosages guide and, if needed, taking lowering your dose. If you do experience any headaches, it is recommended to add a choline to your stack. No adverse reactions to other medication have ever been reported. However, if you have any concerns about taking Phenylpiracetam you should speak to a healthcare professional.
Because of Phenylpiracetam’s psychostimulatory effects it is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of banned substances as a non-specified stimulant.
