Aniracetam is a derivative of of original racetem which demonstrates a prolonged neurological stimulation effect. It is also known as an ampakine nootropic in the racetams family as it shows the ability to modulate AMPA receptors in the brain. Through its unique effect on the brain Aniracetam has been positively associated with changes in neurotransmission, neuroprotection, memory and learning.
The first effects of Aniracetam can be felt 15 minutes post-ingestion. This is faster than some other racetams. The important point is that Aniracetam should be taken consistently for a prolonged period of time in order to slowly build up the long-term effects. The real noticeable cognitive changes may take weeks to develop, while the full benefits can be months away.
This is because glutamate and acetylcholine neurotransmitters are affected by Aniracetam in short-term, but the real value of this racetam is observed later in time. Aniracetam is neuroprotective as it helps to maintain the healthy condition of the brain cells. Furthermore, continuous use of Aniracetam helps to grow new synapses between neurons. Effectively, that makes Aniracetam a good product to combat the natural mental decline. To work out if Aniracetam is actually working, some users take weekly mental tests by trying out various online games and puzzles. You may not necessarily notice your memory change instantly, but over a longer period of time you should see memory enhancing effects.
The recommended daily dosage is between 1000-1500 mg taken in 2 equal administrations over the course of a day. Ideally, there would be no longer than 3 hours in between these administrations. Lower or higher dosages of Aniracetam above the recommended daily averages are likely to reduce its effectiveness. Aniracetam is fat-soluble which means that it needs to be taken with a fat containing meal.
The exact mechanism of action of Aniracetam is still unknown, but it has been suggested that it works by activating AMPA-type glutamate receptors in neurons. This consequently increases AMPA and calcium uptake. The AMPA-receptors play a very important role in the phenomenon known as long-term potentiation (LTP). LTP is basically the process by which signal transmission between the two simultaneously active neurons is strengthened. In addition, Aniracetam has a positive effect on cholinergics systems, i.e. increases the release of dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine is a major neurotransmitter in the brain directly involved in a number of cognitive functions and movement. Aniracetam has a bioavailability of around 11%.
Aniracetam is a non-toxic and safe to use nootropic when taken at the recommended dosages. However, one of the few occasionally reported side effects is headache. If it does happen to you, it can be prevented by taking Choline alongside Aniracetam. Also, other very rare side effects are restlessness and insomnia.
Aniracetam has an oral bioavailability of around 11% when consumed in a fasted state. Aniracetam is a fat-soluble racetam, which means that its bioavailability may be improved if taken with a fat-containing meal. Research shows that 48 hours post-ingestion, 84% of Aniracetam was eliminated in urine, 0.8% in excrement and 11% was expelled as carbon dioxide. Serum levels of Aniracetam increase from 2.3mcg/L to 14.1mcg/L following 300 mg and 1200 mg dosages, respectively.
